Matt Clark Tile & Stone: The best source for San Luis Obispo tile.
“When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece.” - John Ruskin
The best tile room in San Luis Obispo County
The work of Matthias Clark is proof that loving what you do and being skilled at it, is the best way to produce a masterpiece. After helping his father set tile in a small Malibu studio in 1978, he was enamored with the permanence of it; this was a material that would live on long after not only he and his father, but the small studio itself. Here at Matt Clark Tile & Stone, we believe that this is a craft that, when implemented properly, has the potential to become a legacy. The belief that the tile design process should be as interesting and exciting as the finished product is still our driving force here at our stunning San Luis Obispo tile showroom.
For three decades, Matthias Clark has honed his skill starting with apprenticeships and collaborations with industry masters from the west coast to the east coast and back again. By the time he and Katie Franklin opened their tile design studio in San Luis Obispo in 2002, the focus was on the concept of Tile as Art. The goal at Matt Clark Tile & Stone is creating designs that are visually stunning, made from the world’s finest natural stone and porcelain tile, and installed by the best craftsmen on the central coast. This approach ensures that clients with tastes from Classic to Contemporary, to Arts and Crafts, to Modern or Eclectic will find one of a kind tile design at Matt Clark Tile & Stone.
About San Luis Obispo
This Central Coast paradise is the perfect place to find inspiration as an artist or craftsmen. The Mission in downtown, for instance, is bathed in a neutral palette of beige and terra cotta; surrounded by the lush, verdant greens of the valley and the unending blues of the Pacific Ocean. Because of its location in the foothills of the Santa Lucia Mountain Range, the region offered the Spaniards who first settled here growing conditions and ideal temperatures needed to make their home here. With its Mediterranean climate and close proximity to California’s fabled Highway 101, San Luis Obispo stays on the list of places to see for travelers the world over. In addition to farmer’s markets, music festivals, top notch restaurants, spas, hiking trails, and world-class surfing – San Luis Obispo features a rich history in art and culture. Frank Lloyd Wright chose the city as the site of one of the few commercial buildings he ever designed. It is also home to one of Andrew Carnegie’s public libraries, which now serves as the official County Historical Museum. One of the top destinations on California’s central coast, San Luis Obispo is located approximately halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. The latitude and longitude of San Luis Obispo is 35.2742° N, 120.6631° W.
